Refillable Deodorant
Designed at MYRO
Why We Created This
We designed Myro as a refillable deodorant system that uses 50% less plastic than a typical drugstore deodorant. Our approach was to create hardware that's easy to use, with fully recyclable replacement deodorant pods. The pods lock in, and are used with the familiar turning of a dial and, when empty, are easily removed with a twist.
The Challenges
My role was to redesign the product and packaging from the ground up, to optimize the product for the many challenges it was facing. We faced a lot of problems working with custom deodorant hot fill vendors, and redesigning the refill components.
The multifaceted shape of the hardware is designed for easy turning and a tactile experience; of course, it also prevents the deodorant from rolling away when it's on its side. Each click of the dial allows more deodorant to come out in a way that's pleasing to use, while the deodorant itself is natural and aluminum free. It's a shift away from both the harmful chemicals often found in deodorants and the overwhelming plastic waste that has become an industry norm.
